Postcode Lookup
Use this tool to obtain deprivation data for up to 10,000 post codes at a time. You can also look up deprivation data by local authority.
File Formats
Results are returned in Excel format or as Comma Separated Values (CSV) for easy re-use in your preferred application, e.g. spreadsheet, GIS system or database.
Data Output
The output file lists the postcodes entered, the Lower-layer Super Output Area (LSOA) that each postcode falls within, and the deprivation data for that LSOA.
The deprivation data consists of: deciles, ranks and, where appropriate, scores, for the Index of Multiple Deprivation, the seven domain indices and the Income Deprivation Affecting Children and Older People Indices. Find out more about these measures and the Indices of Deprivation on opendatacommunities.org and gov.uk.
Note that some postcodes cross over LSOA boundaries. The Office for National Statistics sets boundaries for LSOAs and allocates every postcode to one LSOA only: this is the one which contains the majority of residents in that postcode area (as at 2011 Census)
